As a child the world seems so vast and great
Small heads filled with nothing resembling hate
Too young to understand things such as fate
And being a child we can hardly wait
Until we grow and are bigger
Until we grow up and get older
And we're told that we will become more wise
And soon we’ll be living the best years of our lives
Soon we're teens, living on the line
And yet all we do is complain and whine
That life isn't great, life doesn't shine
And absolutely nothing in this world is fine
We want so much we don't need
We want what we already have
And we’ll kill anyone telling us the lies
That these are the best years of our lives
Then we come to the end of another year
We've lost everything that we held dear
In old age we finally understand this old fear
We don't want to be alone, we don't want to be here
We missed so much as a kid
We missed so much overall
But when all of our happiness finally dies
We can look back on the best years of our lives
